HUPX

The Hungarian organized power exchange; day-ahead (DAM) prices change every 15 minutes and provide the settlement basis for spot-price industrial contracts.

HUPX (Hungarian Power Exchange) is the Hungarian electricity exchange. Prices on the DAM (day-ahead market) provide the settlement basis for spot (market-indexed) industrial contracts — since October 2025 in true 15-minute resolution.

The intraday price pattern is characteristic: because of solar generation, midday hours are the cheapest (in summer even with negative prices), while the morning and evening peaks are the most expensive. In June 2026, the average price at 13:00 was 34 EUR/MWh and at 20:00 it was 293 EUR/MWh — the average daily price range (spread) grew to 331 EUR/MWh.

This spread is the source of the value of battery storage arbitrage: charge cheaply, discharge expensively. Under a fixed-price contract the spread cannot be captured — there, solar self-consumption is the main value driver.
