KÁT levy

The cost of the mandatory feed-in support for renewable generators, borne by every consumer in proportion to the kWh drawn, as a charge that changes monthly.

The KÁT (Kötelező Átvételi Tarifa, mandatory feed-in tariff) levy covers the guaranteed feed-in price of renewable energy generators. MAVIR publishes the current value monthly, and every electricity consumer pays it in proportion to their consumption — even under a fixed-price contract: it is the only energy charge component that the supplier cannot build into a fixed price.

Alongside it there are two further elements: the Premium levy (support based on a market premium) and, from 2026, the Storage levy (support for energy storage capacity). The charge is strongly seasonal — higher in summer, because the support cost of solar generation is greater — and it can even be negative: in January 2026 it was −0.36 HUF/kWh (a credit), and in April it reached a peak of 14.79 HUF/kWh.
