DC/AC ratio
The quotient of a solar array’s DC peak power (kWp) and the inverter’s AC power (kW); the industrial standard is 1.2–1.3.
The DC/AC ratio is the total DC peak power of the solar array (kWp) divided by the inverter’s rated AC power (kW). The industrial standard is 1.2–1.3.
Oversizing (a ratio greater than 1) increases generation in the morning and evening hours, makes better use of the inverter and raises the annual yield — in exchange, clipping may occur at the midday peak. The right ratio can be optimized based on the consumption profile, the orientation and the presence of a BESS.
With a BESS, a higher DC/AC ratio is more advantageous, because the storage captures the clipped surplus.
