BTM (Behind-the-Meter)
An on-site system “behind” the consumption meter that generates for self-consumption and may not feed back into the grid.
A BTM (behind-the-meter) arrangement means that the solar/storage system is on the site side of the consumption meter — it serves the site’s own consumption, not the grid.
Industrial BTM systems typically may not feed back into the grid: surplus generation is either subject to reverse-power limitation (and is lost) or captured by battery storage. By contrast, a solar park installed in front of the meter (front-of-meter) can export.
The BTM limit is what makes self-consumption optimization and BESS essential for industrial solar.
