Storage fund: a new charge element on the electricity bill from 2026
From 1 January 2026, a third element has appeared in MAVIR's monthly allocation publication alongside the KÁT and Premium funds: the Storage fund. It covers the support scheme for energy storage capacity and — like KÁT — is borne by every consumer in proportion to the kWh drawn from the grid.
Actual data for the first half-year (MAVIR)
| Month | Storage fund (HUF/kWh) |
|---|---|
| January | 0.04 |
| February | 0.05 |
| March | 0.04 |
| April | 0.03 |
| May | 0.13 |
| June | 0.21 |
The absolute level is still low for now, but the trend is rising: the June value is five times the level at the start of the year. As the supported storage capacity comes online, the fund is expected to grow further.
Interestingly, in the same period the KÁT fund was negative in January (−0.69 HUF/kWh) — KÁT generation was sold profitably on the exchange, so consumers received a credit — while in April it reached a peak of 12.34 HUF/kWh.
