HUPX monthly summary — June 2026

· ICP Industrial CleanPower

FACT — calculated from ENTSO-E data (15-minute DAM, BZN|HU):

The average price on the HUPX day-ahead market in June 2026 was 124.67 EUR/MWh — 48% higher than a year earlier (June 2025: 84.10 EUR/MWh). During the month the price reached a peak of 999.00 EUR/MWh, while the low was −55.18 EUR/MWh: the price range alone spanned a band of more than 1,000 euros.

The daily spread is the real story

The average intraday price difference (daily maximum − minimum) rose to 331 EUR/MWh — the highest monthly value in our data series so far (May: 279.8; June 2025: 210.1). The 15-minute market resolution and the growing share of solar generation together produce ever deeper midday price troughs and sharper evening peaks.

The time-of-day pattern in June:

  • Cheapest hour: 13:00 — monthly average 34.2 EUR/MWh
  • Most expensive hour: 20:00 — monthly average 293.3 EUR/MWh
  • Negative-price 15-minute intervals: 148 in the month

What does this mean for industrial consumers?

For industrial consumers on spot (HUPX-indexed) contracts, the average hourly peak difference of 259 EUR/MWh (13:00 vs 20:00) directly raises the value of energy storage arbitrage: energy charged in the cheap midday hours and discharged in the evening peak has never been worth this much. In the negative-price intervals, charging actually generates revenue.

Under fixed-price contracts the spread cannot be captured — there, solar self-consumption remains the main source of value. A detailed comparison of the two contract types and the PV+BESS combination is on our electricity price page, and we prepare a simulation tailored to your own consumption profile free of charge.
