Aggregator

The market participant that pools the aFRR obligations of generators below 5 MW and manages them toward MAVIR.

An aggregator is the market participant that pools the aFRR obligations of smaller generators (below 5 MW, temporarily below 3 MW) and manages them toward MAVIR as a single unit. It signs a contract with the generator, builds the IEC-104 communication and handles the accreditation.

During curtailment, the aggregator controls the disconnection and distributes the compensation. Generators below 5 MW can participate only through an aggregator — they cannot contract with MAVIR directly.

aFRR-accredited battery storage can also be a source of revenue on the balancing market. Details: aFRR.
